First, gutters come in a variety of materials and shapes. Instead of describing all the variations, we prefer to keep it simple. We install aluminum and copper gutters. We have aluminum gutters in 26 different colors including an extremely hard to get bright red. The gutters we install are “K” style gutters. If you’re not familiar with that profile all you have to do is step out your front door and look at your neighbor’s house. Almost every home you see will have “K” style gutters.
Second, our gutters are seamless gutters. Seamless gutters are a little misleading because technically there are seams. What seamless guttering means, is that we will bring a gutter machine to your home and we will make each straight run of gutter to the exact length you need. If we must go around an outside corner or an inside corner, then we must seam the corners.
Next, gutters typically come in two different sizes, 5” and 6”. Most of the gutters installed today are 5” gutters. The reason why most gutters are 5” gutters is because a 5” gutter machine is cheap to buy, and most homeowners don’t know how to determine if they need 5” or 6” gutters. If a gutter contractor installs 5” and 6” gutters they must buy a second machine (these machines are not small) which means they have less room in their truck or trailer, or they must buy a combo machine which is a lot more expensive. We have a combo machine therefore we do 5” and 6” gutters.
How do you know if you need 5” or 6” gutters? One way is to determine the surface area of your roof. This is rarely ever an issue. The two things are most commonly an issue that would determine the need for 6” gutter’s is the pitch of the roof and the material the roof is made of. If you have a steep roof, then the water will run off at a higher volume than if you had a shallower pitched roof. That’s simple enough, right? If you have a metal roof, regardless of the pitch, there is nothing to impede the flow of the rainwater coming from the peak of your roof to your gutters.
Let’s sum up what we have learned so far. We install aluminum and copper gutters. You can get aluminum gutters in 26 different colors including bright red and we install 5” and 6” gutters. If you have a steep pitch or metal roof, most likely you will need 6” gutters.
